Labor Day is often considered the unofficial end of summer, and the weekend is typically filled with cookouts, boating, family get-togethers, and all manner of social events. This Labor Day, it's more important than ever to keep yourself and your family safe by (1) observing safe social distancing practices, and (2) staying sober. If you are newly sober, the celebratory events may prove especially challenging, which is why we're here with a few helpful suggestions for a fun and sober Labor Day weekend.
Get out and enjoy the sunshine! Whether it's swimming, biking, or taking a walk on a nature trail at one of Texas' beautiful state parks, getting outside is great for the body and the mind. It's a great way to spend time with your family, and you may discover a great new place right in your own backyard.
Create a signature "mocktail" for the weekend, or bring your own drinks to gatherings. This is a great way to participate in the fun while lessening any temptation to drink.
Find a sober buddy. You may not want everyone to know that you aren't drinking or why, but having at least one friend clued in can be helpful. Lean on them for support, and let them help you recognize if it's time to leave an event or try something different.
If you do end up drinking, be sure to have a designated driver or rely on a rideshare driver to get you home safely. Staying sober can be a challenge, especially during a holiday weekend, but if you plan it out properly and commit to having a safe weekend, it is possible.
